Bio
Mari Kawade, born and raised in Japan, currently lives and works in New York.

She came to New York for the first time in 1996, trying out everything she was interested in, until she finally met with filmmaking. In 1997 she produced, wrote, directed and edited her first short film "UNDER THE BRIDGE", which was where she experienced an audience's applause for her creation for the first time.

Though fascinated by filmmaking, she was forced to return to Japan when her visa expired and she ran out of money. She also feared she couldn't make a living as a film director.

In Japan, she got a position as a concert/event promoter, working hard with her cellphone 24/7. It was a tough but exciting time. However, she noticed that she was ignoring her passion for filmmaking. Ten years as a promoter did nothing to silence the calling.

In 2007 she came back to New York and has been making films since.
